Not just a non-believer but against believers in such things.

Through an odd path I ended up reading the Bible to give me ammunition to attack Christians - to get the written proof of silliness and use it against all.

As I read I started to believe. At the same time I read some articles that undermined all the 'evidence' (and I mean ALL) I was given for evolution. That had been the 'wall' through which believe in a god couldn't pass.

I started to believe what I was reading. It was really scary.
I didn't tell my wife initially.

But at some point she said "you seem to be going hard at that reading" I said to her "I'm starting to believe it's true"
I read the Bible in 3 months - start to end as it should be read.
I was scared - I believed and I cried a lot at night when alone begging God to forgive me for all I had done/been for so very long.

Having read the Bible I knew I should be baptised as an indication of my repentance.
My wife was not happy - "who are you?" "you're not the man I married!"
It can be a tough time on the spouse who has a person change their beliefs so dramatically.

It was a VERY tough first year - I thought on a couple of occasions that she would leave me because I had changed from the man she married.

I, of course, always wanted to stay married and in my family. We'd been married over 20 years and our son was 8 years old.
But more than that - I love my wife. And my love of God put that into a better perspective. I'm not just loving her. I'm cherishing her. All the wonder of her.
Even as a non-believer, which she will remain forever it seems, I love all the creation God has done in her.
She is one of those 'good' non-believers.

She has come to terms with my belief. But it wasn't easy for her. Not because I became bad or nasty, far from it. I was just not the anti-religion person she knew and that was a big change. I think she was scared that I was going to be too different.


Has anyone else had similar near marriage-collapse times when they changed?

A main proponent of the idea (Sy Tenbrugancate - sorry if spelt incorrectly, no disrespect meant) was heard on Christian radio in UK to seem floored by the idea that "if we agree there is a God, why Christian" - his reply was 'that is pre-supposed'

So while a proof against anti-theists it is not a proof of God, and not a proff of the God of christians, orthodox or otherwise.

I'll give the whole back history of faith in my life so I don't have to say it again elsewhere

I was an atheist for over forty years - for maybe 30 of them a militant atheist (I took every opportunity to ridicule or put down any religious faith).
As a growing child/adult though I always thought (no idea why as it apparently doesn't come from my parents) that a house should have "a bible, the works of shakespeare and a dictionary" - maybe it was 'desert island discs' (a bbc radio program I never remember listening to).
Anyway - when my son was learning to read I thought I'd better have a bible here (I love shakespeare and hope to someday finish all the plays and sonnets) - I don't believe it but he has to have the choice.
So I got one from a very bad source because it was free - the Jehovah's Witnesses.
Anyway, though they gave me their Bible and their compulsory few chats they made the mistake of telling me what they believe - which made little sense from what I was reading - I'd bought a KJV too and had read more than the select passages they insist upon. When they said Jesus was archangel Michael - I looked at the evidence they gave and decided they were a bit mad.
So I thought I'll read the Bible alone thanks - and proceeded to do that - from start to finish.
At this stage I'm looking for ammo to attack Christians with. I realise though that my school teaching as a child was rubbish and incomplete - I know nothing of who Jesus was and why he died. All I knew is that people thought it important.
I started to believe what I was reading was true. It was a horrible feeling to me.
I thought I'll read on and it will clear up.
More I read the more I believed. I didn't know why. I know now.
I started to get help with passages from sites - and got esword - that helped me see that different versions work in different ways and some are wrong.
I found out they are all translations from 'moved on' languages - a bit like olde english but worse.
I watched some inane drivel by kent hovind but it made me think about evolution because of two revealed lies - the mainstay barrier I've always had against religion. It seems the ONLY TWO things I was told as kid proved evolution were verified as a hoax 70 years before and 10 years after I was taught them.
Though Hovind wasn't enough to make me disbelieve evolution it showed what I was taught was known to be false (by scientists) - I'd deal with that later but faith was no longer undermined in the way it was before.
Anyway - I became a believer in Christ as the Son of God from reading my Bible.
However I had a hard time after that because I only believed the Bible and not stuff religions wanted to tell me I hadn't read or felt.
Also I was different from the man my wife married so we had a hard time of it.
I have a relationship with God through Jesus and wanted to be baptised (as is clear in scripture). Finally I found a group that agreed with 'most' of what I understand from the word of God.
So I'm a Christadelphian. There are a few other groups close but one, at least, is USA only.
Look up the Apostles Creed - I believe that. But many of the pagan extras added into most of christianity really early on I'm not in agreement with.
I still love my fellow Christians and hope that the level of misunderstanding they have been taught will not be maltreated at the time of Judgement when Christ returns.

I love this site and the people who visit, or have visited in the past (all of them).

God dragged me into belief in Him by the words of Scripture. For within the Bible lies the spirit and word of God.

I love discussion as long as pleasant - even in disagreement.
